Whether they’re going out every night or buying a lot of things, some people like to spend money simply because it makes them happy. Because when doesn’t a new handbag or happy hour with friends make a bad day better? Believe it or not, retail therapy is actually a psychologically verified thing– shopping allows people to visualize themselves in a “better” life, where they’re dressed in nice clothes or surrounded by nice things. Buying makes these visualizations a reality.

     To some extent, retail therapy is completely natural and can even be healthy. When it means overspending, though, you may want to rethink your habits. If you find yourself recklessly spending when you’re upset or sad, find a way to get to the bottom of your feelings that doesn’t involve purchasing shiny new things. Once we become used to not being creative — to being merely passive consumers — it seems that the creativity muscle begins to atrophy, which does not bode well for future generations. We spend to cheer ourselves up, to reward ourselves, to celebrate, to fix problems, to elevate our status, and to alleviate boredom. Are we not able to solve these problems, any other way than purchases of junk? We’ve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don’t have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is still missing.
     In addition, the retailer aggressively used against our wallets all available psychological arsenal accumulated over many years of research (mind traps). Let me remind you that in your wallet is stored something for which we have given your time, nerves and health, substances that are no longer possible to change back. Big companies didn’t make their millions by earnestly promoting the virtues of their products, they made it by creating a culture of hundreds of millions of people that buy way more than they need and try to chase away dissatisfaction with money. We buy stuff to cheer ourselves up, to keep up with the Joneses, to fulfill our childhood vision of what our adulthood would be like, to broadcast our status to the world, and for a lot of other psychological reasons that have very little to do with how useful the product really is. How much stuff is in your basement or garage that you haven’t used in the past year?

     Why are people eager to have new things.
1. … and generally all new. Well, actually it is good quality, it is human nature. However, the evolution of society inevitably leads to the fact that this good quality is used against a person. After all, much easier to get a new, prepared thing or idea, especially if it is continually being imposed everywhere than create something by yourself. Although somewhere here is the border of normality, but it is the idea is worthwhile to think about, just for to be able to escape from vice and change the point of reflection of reality.
2. Another property of the person - is a thirst of rivalry, it is also not bad in general, but taking into account all of the above, it is directed against the person, destroying, grinding consciousness (Laziness place).
3. Having high status. High status, which can be expressed via things that are not real virtues, is a product of civilization. Its nature is poor, and the roots originate from the first two reasons.
4. Self-expression. This need of intelligent beings, but if a person does not have any " sellable-buyable" qualities, he can do nothing else except as expressing themselves through things. Marketing does not sleep and quickly trying to sell us the view like we think we seem to others. But there are two "but", which completely negate all attempts:
- we all have different perceptions, otherwise would not have such a variety of purchased masks;
- all deeply spit on you, because people are engaged in the creation and maintenance of their image.
